I'm pretty sure the little town we've called home for the past 3-years rarely makes local news, much less national news. Until today. "How exciting!" One may say. I beg to differ. We didn't make national news because of something cool being discovered here on our soil. We didn't make the news because a famous person just purchased a house here. We certainly didn't make the news because of our diverse population. Nope. We made national news today because some pot-dealing idiot who owns a store not even 5-minutes from our house decided to post a sign in his store encouraging people to pay a dollar to post bets on when our President-elect would be assassinated. It gets better. I was absolutely shocked to hear this. I was almost disappointed to see that his store was closed today (guess he had to move all of his marijuana plants from the apartment above his store). I had it all planned out. I was going to go in on my way to work, pour like a million large coffees with extra cream and sugar in each of them, then after he rang me up, I was going to suddenly remember about his sign, then give him a piece of my mind just before leaving (without paying for the $30 worth of coffee that I'd just wasted!) Dan was less than impressed with my revenge, but I would have proud for the rest of my day!
More importantly, it just made me realize how much room for improvement my little town, my little state, and our country has. It really has me worried that my son will at some point, have to go out and face this world that is still full of prejudice.

That's horrible. I think it would be scary to be the president (or the president's family). Regardless of your race or gender, there's always someone out there that won't be happy with your actions and choices (and if you're GWB that's just more often than not... anyway!)
I'm sorry there are sickos like that living in your 'hood. But I promise they're everywhere (sadly) Come on, people- can't we all just get along???
Oh Tiff, how sad.... :(
oh, that is just lovely......apparently, i've been under a rock or something because somehow i missed this story on the news...
That is such an awful story Tiff. I must have missed this on the news. Keep your head up. I believe it was Anne Frank who said "Despite everything, I believe that people are really good at heart." Let's hope at least most people are...
Oh for Pete's sake. But ask Emily pointed out, it's gotta be scary for the Obama family.... not necessarily b/c of race but b/c it's such a high profile position.
Are you sure you're not from Tennessee? Yeah, it is scary having people like that around. We have them all around us too. The South seems to be heavily populated by close-minded, sometimes dangerous people. See my posts from July for an example. The good news is, we are here to help change this world...one kind word and one kind deed at a time and we can hope and pray that someone pays it forward.
